Kristie Dawn Parkinen

CHICAGO, IL -- Kristie Dawn Parkinen, age 24, of 4334 N. Hazel St., Chicago and former Ishpeming area resident, was welcomed into the arms of Heaven's angels on Friday June 6, 2003 at her home in Chicago, IL, where she had resided for the past year.

Kristie was born April 1, 1979 in Ishpeming to Richard J. and Gail D. (Tulppo) Parkinen. She was a graduate of Westwood High School, Class of 1997. While at Westwood she competed with the Business Professionals of America, and took a first place in national competition in Arizona. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, in which she held the position of Treasurer, and was also a member of the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society and the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.

Kristie was a kind and loving daughter, sister and friend, and always put others needs in front of her own. For the past year Kristie had been working at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago as a Registered Nurse in the maternity ward where she received countless notes of praise and thanks. She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Lake Superior in the Copper Country. Kristie loved to cook, bake, dance, sing, and she always looked forward to her annual snowmobiling trip with her father in the Keweenaw.

Kristie is survived by her parents Richard and Gail Parkinen of Champion; 2 sisters - Marnie Parkinen of Seattle, WA and Brooke Parkinen of Chicago, IL; 2 brothers - Paul Parkinen currently serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and Derrek Parkinen of Tampa, FL; her paternal grandmother Hilja Kallio of Lake Linden; a niece Layla Parkinen of Seattle; her step grandmother Leona Tulppo of Calumet; aunts and uncles - Marlene and Robert Davison of Escanaba; Ronald and Kay Tulppo of Clearwater, Fl and Al Bessonen of Farmington Hills; numerous cousins and her special friends - Patrick Palmquist of Menominee, Michael Yandl of Houghton, Jacob Claytor of Chicago, and Gwen Magnuson of Ishpeming.
